We are going to review the float serve in volleyball and teach the proper ball toss and point of contact. The first thing in serving is to have a good stretched out arm directly in front of you with the volleyball resting at shoulder height in your hand. In the video example linked in this post, she is serving with her left hand in front because she is a right-handed server. Next she is going to toss the ball up in front of her and that toss is going to be low and controlled. The toss should always land in front of the server s back foot. The volleyball should land in front of the back foot directly in line with the serving shoulder. The next thing we need to go over is contact. Contact is the second most important thing in serving after the toss. When you go to toss the ball in front of your serving shoulder, you want to make contact with an open palm.
